Hitam knew that Severus spent a lot of time in the library (one of the reasons she was glad he and October seemed to be going out) and waited for him near the front so she wouldn't have the chore of trying to pry him away from a book.

Unfortunately for Hitam, Severus already had his nose in a book as he entered the library, nearly missing the door until he looked up in time.

Hitam rolled her eyes and promptly stepped where he would either run into her or have to look up and stop. "Severus, can I talk to you? It's about October," she added, thinking that would probably get his attention quickly enough.

Hitam's prediction was right; Severus' head snapped up with alarming speed and he put his book away. "Of course, I have nothing to hide," he eyed her suspiciously, "But you might."

"Why do you think I have anything to hide, Severus? I just wanted to congratulate you. I was wondering how long it would be before you got up the courage to ask her." Hitam smiled. "But you'd better be serious about this, Severus. She's been hurt a lot already, just like you."

Severus was startled; she was glad for him? Since when did anyone feel glad for him? "Why wouldn't I be serious about this? She's one of the few human beings who will show kindness to me, you know."

Hitam nodded, satisfied. "Good. I'd been watching you two, and that's nice. Her father was one of ours, you know." She rubbed her arm in case he had missed her meaning and lowered her voice until it was barely a whisper. "The Aurors took him in a raid. I heard October and her brother saw all of it. He died a little while ago in Azkaban."

The day held one shock after another, it seemed.
"Is that why she wants to be an Auror?" Severus walked slowly to an empty table, trying to process the information, motioning for Hitam to sit with him.

Hitam sat down beside him. "I didn't know she wanted to be an Auror. Perhaps she's mad at her father. I don't think he ever told them he was... you know."

"No, I suppose not, which is probably why it's so painful for her," Severus now seemed to realize why October might've been so upset. Well, at least what she was upset over. He wasn't sure how Shield spells might've been part of it...

Hitam nodded. "Just thought you should know. Maybe you should tell her... you wouldn't want the same thing to happen to you. At least you don't have your Mark yet, so she can't accidentally see that..."

"Can you tell her to meet me in the library? I don't necessarily know the password to the Girl's Dorm," Severus frowned when she mentioned the Mark.

((Ha. She doesn't have to.))
October padded into the library, carrying a small, black book (it had been a gift from Mimi, given in hope that October might forgive her). She walked softly as a shadow, hoping not to draw any attnetion to herself. She did not exactly feel like talking to anyone right now, so she hoped she might find some solitude within the familiar confines of the library.
The fourth year located an empty table and sat down with a sigh. She stroked the cover of her new book. It was an anthology of fairy tales. October wondered faintly how Mimi had been able to find a book containing all her childhood favorites, but she didn't care. She gently opened the small book and scanned the index.

Severus looked up and saw October entering the library. Rising from the table, he felt like following her until he saw her face. He sat back down, knowing that she would come to him when she wanted to talk.

The first story in the book was 'The Buried Moon'. October smiled faintly to herself. She did not even need to read this one. She knew it by heart already: The moon comes down to earth in the form of a beautiful woman and is captured and buried in a bog by the Evil things that dwell in the shadows, but she is later rescued. October had always been fond of that tale, for it was the one her father told most often to her for a bedtime story. And, despite hat her father had done, she still loved it.
((I have to go eat. See you all later.))
