"You didn't offend me. The people you talk about offend me, so no need to be shamed," Severus explained.

"...Alright." October replied finally, after a long moment of silence, "So, ah, anyway. That was why I got upset. I would like to apologize again for breaking down like that. I just never got over what happened, even though it happened such a long time ago. Some memories never really go away, I suppose."

"That's quite alright, October," Severus replied. "Do you want to continue studying? Or would you rather be left alone?"

"Well...uh..." October was at a loss for words for a moment, wondering exactly how to communicate what she wanted into words, "Severus, could you just...just stay with me for a moment...? I don't really want to talk, but I just want to be near someone..."

Severus lowered himself slowly into a nearby chair, not knowing what to expect. "Sure," he replied.

"Thank you, Severus." October replied with a soft sigh. Usually, she preferred to be alone when grappling with the old memories of her father and their family, but right now, she simply wanted somebody to be there. Somebody...who understood, she supposed, how she must feel about the whole ordeal. Severus always seemed to comprehend what she felt, and if he didn't, he was at least patient with her and that wasn't something many people could do.

"Anytime," he replied.
He was used to this, especially when his mother was too scared to go to sleep, for fear that her husband might come when she was asleep. Severus would hear the first step creak and knew that it was going to be one of those nights where he stayed up till dawn in the kitchen with a kettle of tea continually brewing, sitting in silence with his mother. When the first fingers of Sol creeped out, he would climb back into bed for a couple of hours of sleep as would his mother. When they eventually migrated to breakfast, they continued with life as if nothing had happened. Severus didn't question why this happened, it was just life.

She smiled weakly at her friend and wondered faintly if he knew exactly how much this meant to her. If she had asked Mimi to stay, the older Hufflepuff girl epobably would have gotten impatient within the first five minutes and demand that October tell her exactly what was troubling her in complete detail. That was something October disliked about Mimi. She needed to talk when October needed silence, usually.
The Slytherin girl wondered exactly why she was friends with Mimi. The two of them couldn't be more different and Mimi often tried to criticize October. Perhpas it was because she was supposedly had always been judged by her two older brothers, Zachery and Finnegan Lockhart (both of whom were already successful and rather wealthy, despite the fact that Finnegan had only graduated four years ago and Zachery only one). Maybe October stayed with Mimi because she thought she could help the older girl or somethin like that. She really didn't know anymore.

Severus smiled back at October and pulled out his Charms homework. Might as well get started on that while he had the chance. He stared dubiously at the parchment and Charms book. How do you properly cast a Frimesca Charm, and what were it's uses?

October glanced over Severus' shoulder at the book he had opened. "Charms homework?" She asked, although she already knew full well what it was. "I haven't started that yet. It's on that Frimesca charm, isn't it?" Professor Flitwick had been infuriatingly vague in his description of the charm, and there was little in it in the textbook. October often wondered if he deliberately assigned these things just because he liked seeing the students tear their hair out in frustration. Along with her Potions, Muggle Studies, and Transfiguration homework, October realized that tonight would probably be yet another all-nighter. Oh, joy.
She glanced down at her shoes. They were white trainers covered with angry, black scribbles. October distinctly remembered that night near exams last year where she had taken out her frustration with her Potions homework on her shoes. Someday, She thought ruefully, My shoes will probably be solid black from all the scribbling.

"Yes, it unfortunately is," Severus flipped back to the back of the book, hoping there might be definitions or something. "Ah, here we go. A simple spell most commonly used for dusting and sweeping the floor. Refer to Charms and their Uses by Clairol Dove for more details," he looked up at October. "I'll be back."

October nodded lightly. "Alright. I'll be waiting." She replied, drumming her fingers absently on the table.

Scanning the shelves, he finally found the book he was looking for. Lifting the brown, leather-bound book, he noticed that the pages were crisp and, well, clean. It was a Charms book, and there were charms for cleaning. He set the book down, and flipped back to the glossary. Fangle, Furio, Frimesca.
"The proper technique for the Frimesca charm, is to have your feet at shoulder-width, and straight back. With a stiff, straight wand-arm, you slash it vertically to point at the object that you wish to sweep."

"Find it?" October asked when Severus returned with the book, continuing to drum her fingers on the table. Normally, Charms was an enjoyable subject for her, seeing as she was rather good at it. Still, Professor Flitwick, like Professor Binns, had that loathsome tendency to assign obscure things. Well, at least he didn't constantly repeat himself like Professor Binns. Their ghost professor had managed to nearly kill any enthusiasm October had for History. They never learned anything new from him.

"Yes, I did," he slid the book over to her, pointing at the picture of the broom that looked like it was doing a waltz down a sparkling clean hall. "It also gives proper technique as well. I have a feeling I'll be seeing this book soon," Severus had heard Professor Flitwick tell Professor McGonogall that he was planning a whole series of studies like the one they had just been assigned. Grades were improving with this homework, if enthusiasm didn't share the same results.
