Begrudgingly, October took the box from Mimi and opened it. Inside was a quill made from a peacock feather. It was a myriad of lovely shades, blue, purple, green. The quill itself seemed to be made of silver and strange, abstract designs criss-crossed the metal. Over all, it was very, very pretty and looked quite expensive. October herself certainly could not have afforded a quill this pretty. She was not even sure that they sold quills like this anywhere around Hogwarts.
"Mimi..." October began, picking the quill out of its box and examining it, "...Mimi, this is lovely! Where ever did you get it? It looks rather expensive. You didn't have to get something like this for me!"

"Aw, nothing's too good for my friend. Anyway, it's fine. The parents apparently sold a bunch of those new Nimbus Two Thousands--They're really expensive--and made a huge profit. They sent some to me and I decided to make up for breaking your quill somehow." Mimi replied, grinning and shrugging lightly. Her parents owned a broom shop in Diagon Alley and the family lived in the apartment above it. It was a modest existence, but it hardly bothered Mimi. "So...yeah. Are we on good terms again?"

October delicately placed the beautiful quill back into the box, slipping it into the pocket of her school robe. She was almost going to feel guilty for using it. It was a more like a work of art than a writing utensil. October had seen some pretty quills before, but that one took the cake.
"Yes...we're on good terms again." She muttered quietly. "Mimi...what you said about Severus...you really think he doesn't like me, really?" October desperately wanted Severus to like her, and yet she had gotten the same vibe as Mimi. Disinterest. It hurt. Maybe she shouldn't have kissed him like that. Not being able to have something usually made a person want it more. Playing hard to get might have worked, but October was hardly sure. Severus was an enigma in and of himself.

Mimi shrugged. "I hate to be the bearer of bad news, Toby, but I think so." This was easier than expected. Mimi had honestly thought October would cling more to the notion that maybe Severus liked her as more than a friend. Mimi had no earthly idea what Severus felt when it came to October, but that truly had nothing to do with it. "I know you have such a crush on him, but there's no point in chasing after someone who obviously doesn't care for you in that way. You can move on. I will even help you. We'll find you a cuter, nicer boy. There are lots of nice Hufflepuff boys I know who would be more than happy to go out with you, or you could always ask August to introduce you to some of his Ravenclaw friends. He thinks you should have been in Ravenclaw, anyway, so you would fit right in. If all else fails, there are lots of handsome boys in Gryffindor. Why not that cute boy who helps out in the library? Remus, I think his name is. He seems like your type, you know, studious, quiet, kind of shy, a complete bookworm..."

October stared at Mimi in disbelief. "NO. No, no, NO! I don't even speak to Gryffindors unless I have to. Mimi, Hufflepuff may have a good relationship with that house, but Gryffindors and Slytherin are sworn enemies! A Gryffindor boy is more likely to burn me in effigy than go out with me." October half-yelled. That was more than true. Slytherins and Gryffindors hated each other with a passion. There was no exception to that rule. "Anyway, I'm going to stick with Severus until I'm sure he has no interest in me. After that, feel free to try to set me up with anyone of your choosing who is not Gryffindor, but I think I would rather not have a boyfriend if it turned out that way."
