October nodded, "I suppose I should have noticed earlier. To be frank, I was convinced you didn't have any interest in me whatsoever." She replied, "You are always so detached, Severus. Not that it's a bad thing, but sometimes, it doesn't seem like you really care about anybody..."

"To tell the truth, no one's really seemed to care about me either, until you," Severus took a sip from his Butterbeer and started to spin it around again. "I never knew how to make friends, and no one really bothered showing me how to."

October felt a bit bad for Severus. He was such a lonesome boy, without anybody who really cared about him save for her, "What about Lucius? You seemed to be friends with him in first and second year." She asked.

Severus tried to smile, but it turned into a grimace, "Friendship? With him? You've got to be kidding me! At first, we were...but he only used me to get answers in Potions. I was nothing better than a slave to him."

"That's awful." October shook her head. It seemed as though Lucius was the actual manipulator of the Slytherin house, "I thought he would be the type to do something like that. I'm sorry that happened to you, Severus..."

"What's done is done," Severus took another sip from his Butterbeer and began twisting it around again. "But I've learned from my experience, so all isn't lost," he glanced around the Three Broomsticks. "Why don't we talk about something more cheerful? We came to have a good time and we might as well try to have one."

October smiled sheepishly, tugging lightly on her ponytail as her habit dictated, "Yes, I believe we should. So, ah, what would you like to talk about, then?"

"What do you plan on being when you grow up?" Severus had now taken to trying to rip the label off the bottle, but trying to do it in the neatest fashion as possible.

October shrugged, "I don't know." She sighed, "I did want to be an auror, but with my Potions grade, that will most likely never happen..."

"There are other ways to change your appearance than just through simple brews," Severus explained. "There are plenty of Glamour Charms and other common muggle ways to change your appearance. However, I'm always available to help you in Potions," he added quietly.

October smiled wearily, "Thanks, Severus, that means a lot to me. But...I don't think the people at the Auror Office in the Ministry even give me a chance if I'm not perfect in all the required subjects." She sighed, "And although I'm doing well in most things, I'm still far from perfect..."

"That's rubbish," Severus waved her words away, "Your scores are among the highest in most of our classes, and all we need to do is work on Potions and then you're all right. You shouldn't let grades get you down."

"August tells me the same thing. He's even gone as far as to say that I should have been put in Ravenclaw instead and he should be in Slytherin. He says I would probably be more at home in that house." October replied, "And anyway, you are a lot more talented than I am. I heard Professor Slughorn bragging to Professor McGonogall that you could already use Legilimency. Now, that's something impressive."

Severus' eyes widened; since when did Slughorn know he could use Legilimency? "It's not impressive, it's necessary in my family," he shook his head. "And I have to say that I agree with August; you seem to smart for a Slytherin."

((Don't you mean August?))
"Well, the Sorting Hat knows what it is doing. I doubt it has ever been ultimately wrong about putting a person into a certain house. I know August is in Ravenclaw for a reason, just as I am in Slytherin for a reason." October replied, nodding sagely, "and anyway, I think knowing Legilimency at this age is quite impressive. It takes years upon years of study to completely master, doesn't it? I doubt any other wizard in history knew how to use Legilimency at the age of fourteen."
