"Of course I'm alright," Severus said a bit hoarsely. Looking up at the boy, he asked him, "Aren't you October's brother? You look familiar."

"Yep." August replied brightly, smiling and stepping out from behind the shelf "That's me. October's little, two-years-younger Ravenclaw brother. You're Severus Snape, aren't you? You and October are really close, right? Like best friends?"

"Some might say that, some might disagree," Severus peered at the boy over his book, not sure whether to trust him or not.

August caught on quickly, "Oh no. I'm just glad dear Toby has friends. She came to school before I did, you know, and she always seemed so solitary to me. Before I came here, I wondered if she knew anyone at all." He replied, claiming a chair across from the older Slytherin boy, "She likes you a lot, y'know. Sometimes, you're the only thing she wants to talk about. It gets kind of annoying sometimes, but I'm glad she's found someone outside of the family who can make her happy. And she's probably going to murder me once she finds out I've told all of this to you."

Seeing as August was intending to stay for awhile, Severus set down his book. "I don't see why she doesn't have alot of friends. She's plenty interesting," he frowned at the boy.

"Well, like I said, she's a pretty solitary being. Neither of us are really good at meeting people, although I think I've gotten a little better about it. I think she just prefers the company of her books and things to that of people." August replied, shrugging lightly, "You should see her room at home. Nothing but books, all over the floor and furniture. I guess she likes them better because books can't really hurt you. They can shock you, even horrify you at times, but not hurt you."

"True," Severus looked at him sharply. "But why should she be scared of being hurt? I understand about your father," he nodded at August a bit sympathetically. "But I would think she'd be more afraid of being betrayed than hurt."

"Oh. It's all right about my father. I never knew him, really. By now, I've forgotten everything before four and a half. I only knew him through stories and pictures." August replied, shaking his shaggy, black head lightly, "Anyway, I guess it might be the same thing, really. Betrayed. Hurt. They both leave marks, don't they?"

"Yes, but on some they leave different marks. Hurt is a more vague term, and can be applied to betrayed. To be hurt can be also abused or abandoned," Severus flipped the pages in his book idly, not looking at August.

"That what happened to you?" August replied, claiming a chair across from Severus. "No, wait. You don't have to tell me if you don't want to. That must have made me sound really nosy, right? Anyway, if those things did happen to you, I can understand how you wouldn't want to talk about it. I mean, it would be a bit of a touchy subject, don't you think?"

"Of course it's a touchy subject. It doesn't take a rocket wizard to figure that out," Severus' eyes flashed at August, one of the few times he allowed himself to show emotions. He looked around, "Anyways, why are you here in the first place?"

August laughed nervously, scratching the back of his neck. "Well, ah, I kind of lost my Transfiguration book and I was hoping they might have a copy somewhere in here. I need it for my homework. Last time I came to class without my homework, Professor McGonogall nearly skinned me alive. I swear, she is one scary lady..."

"Everybody here at Hogwarts would easily agree with you. When you get the chance, you might want to look in the Transfiguration section, under L. Not the," Severus paused and looked around, "Potions section. You could try that direction," he pointed to his left. "And next time you come to class without your homework, she will skin you alive."

"And you know this, how? By the looks of it, you still have your skin." August replied, running a hand through his dark hair. "Well, anyway, I think I should be getting that book now. I have Transfiguration first tomorrow and I want to be prepared this time. My skin isn't going to be adorning anybody's fireplace. Thanks for the help, though." With that, August bounced out of his chair, smiling brightly, and took off in the direction of the Transfiguration section.

Severus opened his book as August headed to the Transfiguration section, remembering well the time a Slytherin, Lucius in fact, came in without homework a second time. Two detentions was all it took to teach Lucius that he woud turn in his homework on time.
