Severus did the only thing he could think of: he hugged her awkwardly and patted her on the back stiffly. "It's alright, I'm here. Please don't cry because I really have no idea what to do..."

October finally managed to summon her voice, "I...I'm sorry, Severus. It's just...it's just that spell made me remember something...." She sounded as though she were choking on every word that came out of her mouth.

"And it seems to be working better than any memory spell we've ever invented. The human mind really is more complicated than we could ever begin to imagine," Severus said, trying to make light of the situation.

October looked at him as though he had just punched her in the face, but said nothing in reply to him.

Severus recoiled, "I'm sorry, I was just, well, I didn't mean to be offensive, that's all..." His voice dwindled as he realized he was really botching this up.

October shook her head lightly, "No. It's alright. I realize this must be very awkward for you." She replied, her voice less shaky now, "I...I think I should go. You know, just to sort things out." The fourth year rose from the table, but not before collecting her books and putting them back into her bookbag.

"Alright," Severus says in a small voice. An hour later, he's still in the library, staring at a flaw in the wooden table and thinking of some way to help her, anything. He would've stayed in the same place for the rest of the night if not for Madame Pince and the fact that it was rapidly getting colder and colder as the night progressed.
The next day, however, he was back, hoping that October would be back. He was eager to talk to her, to try to understand what she had been so upset about.

((Pretty much. I was going to make Mimi come and harass Severus, but seeing as he's already been forced out of the library by Madame Pince, I guess she can't really come now.))

((True. You think it's time for a Studying Sequel? (For Mimi's sake.)))

((Maybe. Or you could edit your post so that it's possible for Mimi to appear...))

((Thanks!))
Mimi padded softly through the library, humming to herself as she always did. The rain last night had made the Quidditch pitch way too soggy for her liking, so she had decided to come here. After all, this was one of October's favorite haunts. If Mimi was going to run into her friend anywhere, it was in here.
She tramped over to an empty table and sat down, casually pulling out a small, black, leather bound book and flipping through the pages, looking for the spot where she had left off.

((No problem.))
Severus looked up from his Transfiguration book and recognized October's talkative friend. "Do you know where October is? I need to talk to her" he asked her.
