Caroline walked into the library and only saw a few people about. She always loved the library. It was a place where she could go and be alone, even if it was just for a few moments. She went to the nearest shelf and picked out a book about Magic History. She greatly adored history even if her old teacher was a real bore. Finding the nearest table she sat down to read her very absorbing book.

October flitted silently between the shelves, not to look, but just to work off some nervous energy. She did not feel like going outside, anyway, and the col, dark library was like a second home to her, almost. It was like that to many of the students, especially those who preferred a quieter, more solitary enviroment.
The fourth year sighed softly and sank to the floor at the end of a shelf, massaging her forehead with her thumb and forefinger. October drew her knees to her chest, huggin the book she was currently reading.
"August." She growled quietly to herself, "August, August, August."

Caroline heard someone muttering not far from her. Being curious she wandered over to where she thought she heard the voice. When she saw the 4th year she grew concerned, "Hey," Caroline said trying to cheer her up, "we gatta stop meeting like this. What's wrong... You'll probably grow tired of hearing me say this but... are you alright?"

"Oh, it's alright. I'm fine." October made an attempt at a reassuring smile, but failed miserably, "My brother just revealed one of my most guarded secrets at Breakfast and my world is on the brink of shattering, but otherwise, I'm perfect."

Caroline sat there, not quite knowing what to say for once. She remembered when something similar had happened to her a long time ago. She was so afraid about what would happen that she ran. That was probably what she had regretted most. Now looking back on it she found it silly. A silly thing to wish for and a stupid thing to run from. She actually didn't care anymore. It was a part of her past, something gone forever.
Caroline smiled and gave the girl a hug. "Believe it or not," she said, "if a little bit it will probably be all over. There will be new gossip, and everyone will forget about what ever it was you brother said."

"Yes. I know. My dear mother told me the exact same thing in a letter. But the gossip won't die before the secret reaches him. Of that I am sure." October sighed.

oh Caroline thought it has to do with a guy "Well," Caroline began, "if he's your friend he shouldnt care what happened and forgive you for whatever it was you did; and if he doesn't then is he really your friend?"

"I suppose not." October tugged lightly on her ponytail. I just wish it was that simple.

"Well, if he doesn't then I suppose you could always look into a spell to erase his memory, or something," she said jokingly. "I'm sure the must have a potion or something for that."

"I doubt I could do that. He's too clever to fall for that sort of thing." October replied, glancing sideways at Caroline, "No...clever would be the wrong word. He's brilliant, actually. I honestly have never met a smarter boy."

"I honestly have never met someone who could not be out tricked," Caroline stated, sitting across from October on the floor. "Believe me, I would know, all you need are the right tactics and a bit of luck," she was beginning to wonder if she would like to erase someone's memory, at least a portion of it.

"I would not want to erase his memory anyway. I think it would be a bit...wrong. After all, for those who value knowledge, stealing a bit of fairly acquired information from them would be a very high crime. And anyway, I don't think he knows just yet. I will have to wait to see how he reacts..."

"Good point," Caroline said a bit relieved. Given the chance, would I actually have done it? she asked herself, not particularly wanting to know the answer. "I guess I just haven't done anything... against the rules lately. It's beginning to wear on me." Realizing what she just said Caroline hastily asked, "so is he really that smart?"

"Oh, yes. At least, that's what I think." October nodded, closing her eyes momentarily.

"That's so spiffy! Have you told him that? You know you should tell him if you haven't. It always made me feel so good when someone tells me i'm smart. Plus, I bet you're smart, probably the brightest girl in your grade. You know when you follow your heart, and that's really important," Caroline finished starting to smile.
