"Alright" Caroline told her, "though I don't completely understand. If you had a not wonderful experience, wouldn't you want to end with a good one?" really trying to comprehend.

"My family used to have a dog, a west highland white terrior, actually. He was a delightful little dog, but whenever he tried to come upstiars, he would slip on the steps and fall down. Finally, after falling so many times, he refused to go up the stairs ever again and when he wanted to come up, someone would be forced to carry him." October replied coolly, "The point is, it's only natural for living creatures to be intimidated by things that have hurt them in the past. In my case, it's a broom."

"Ok," Caroline said beginning to understand, "I think I get you. So, what do you normally do for fun around here?" she asked

"Well, I read a lot and I spend a good deal of my time caring for my roses." October replied, lightly stroking the cover of her book with two fingers, "But I suppose most people would not consider those things as 'fun'."

"Oh, I would say reading is one of the two best things I could personally do with my time," Caroline said, since she absolutly loved to read. "But I must admit, I don't know much about flowers. Are there different kinds of roses, or just different colors, or are the different colors the different kinds?" She asked.

"The different colored roses just belong to a different subspecies, I think. The term 'rose' is just a collective term for the species as a whole, including all the different subspecies. So, yes, I believe different colors are different kinds."

"Awesome! So it's sort of like different colored candies give different kinds of tastes?" She said trying to relate it to something she knew about.

"Yes, sort of. They are all in the same container, but they taste differently." The Slytherin fourth year nodded, "Good analogy."

"Why thank you. I wouldn't mind seeing them some time. Flowers are just so beautiful," she said being reminded of the wild flower garden she used to sit in, in her last town.

"You can come anytime you want. I keep them in the school greenhouse." October smiled, "Just don't bring any Gryffindor boys with you. Last time, a few of them killed some of my roses."

"What?!?! Why would anyone do that?" She was farley angry. After a second she asked, "Who were they?" getting a wreckless idea.

"Well, a few of them were drunk, actually." October replied conversationally, "Exactly how they snuck alcohol on campus remains a mystery to me. One would think Filtch would find it. Oh well. Anyway, Caroline, a few of them have apologized already anyway..."

"Well, at least they applogized," Caroline said remembering the little firewiskey incident added, "I had no idea they did anything," mostly to herself.

"Well, I forgave the two that apologized, anyway." October sighed lightly, "James and Kingsley. Do you know them, by any chance?"

Caroline nodded, "In a way. I think I have spoken to Kingsley, and I always hear of James pranks."
