Lucius strolled into the library, seated himself in a chair, and pulled a book off a nearby table about hexes. He only skimmed it, looking for something the Dark Lord could use to his advantage. Humming softly to himself, he turned a page.

October floated serenely between the shelves, carrying two moderately thick books in her arms. It was no secret that the fourth year felt most at home in the library. It was the quietest place in Hogwarts, and it was filled with books. What could possibly be better than that? The library was probably one of the only places in the school were one could get an ounce of peace.

Lucius looked up as October entered his field of vision. He shut his book and glanced up at her. "Hello, October. How are you?"

October glanced over at Lucius, "Hello, Lucius. I never imagined you would be the sort to frequent a library." She commented, "Anyway, I'm perfectly fine, and how about yourself?"

Lucius smiled. "Fine, thank you. So, what's been on your agenda lately?"

October glanced down at the books in her arms with a small, veiled smile, "Nothing much. I've been reading a lot, lately, and spending a lot of time in the greenhouses with my roses. They are doing quite well now, despite the fact that those Gryffindor boys trampled all over them." She turned her blue-eyed gaze back to Lucius, "I trust you know about that...?"

Lucius met her steady gaze with one of his own. "Yes, I heard how they were under the influence of Firewhiskey...and they didn't even get detention. Not fair, is it?" he blinked his pale blue, almost gray eyes.

October shook her head, "Of course not." She replied, sitting in a chair across from Lucius and setting her books lightly on the table, "But nobody ever told. I know for a fact that I didn't tell anyone except for August, my brother. I'm sure James wouldn't have ratted his friends out, and I'm fairly certain Severus kept quiet about it as well."

Lucius sighed and stretched. "Of course...that's how all Gryffindors are, loyal. That and brave, supposedly," he said scornfully. "You know, I wish that stupid hat took more care in who it sorts where. I mean, you get the odd Hufflepuff making in Slytherin or Gryffindor, and Gryffindors in Slytherin. Like that Slytherin girl with the brown hair and piercing green eyes, she's in your year, I believe? I don't see how she ended up in Slytherin...she's more Gryffindor material, if you ask me."

"I like Alea." October replied, narrowing her eyes at Lucius, "Slytherins can be brave too, you know. We're not all cowards."

Lucius blinked at October. "I wasn't suggesting that in the least, my dear October," he said, clearly suprised. "I was merely stating that some people don't end up in the right house. I mean, everyone makes mistakes, even hats, I guess."

"...I don't think the Sorting Hat makes mistakes, Lucius. It was created by the Founders themselves and it can see inside your head as easily as the most accomplished Legilimens. I doubt something with that much magical power could make an error. Magic is flawless. It is only the wielder who is flawed." She replied, almost conversationally, "We're all in our houses for a reason. I believe it states in Hogwarts: A History that the Sorting Hat has never ultimately been wrong about a single person."
