October smiled at her friend as one might smile at a puppy after it had done something generally amusing. It was no secret that Mimi had self-esteem issues. She was thoroughly convinced she was not good at anything, despite the fact that there were some things she was perfectly brilliant at. It was actually a strange occurrence that she was proud about the way she fixed the broom. Normally, Mimi would be hiding her face in shame over what she had done, even if she had done a perfectly wonderful job.
“I didn’t think it could be fixed.” The Slytherin said, looking down at the broom. There was a single, thin crack where the broom was once split in half, but it was not noticeable in the least, “Yet you fixed it! Wonderful, Mimi! I assume it still flies?”

Mimi grinned at her younger friend, “Does it ever! It’s never flown faster, actually!” She laughed, taking back the newly repaired broom, “Maybe I should go into the broom business, October! Anyway, I have to go give this broom back now. The girl I borrowed it from said she needed it back before Quidditch practice, and, if I’m not mistaken, practice for the Hufflepuff team is today! We’ll talk more later, alright? Let’s meet in the greenhouse. You been saying your roses have been beautiful lately and I want to see them.” The older girl grinned again before quickly turning and bolting back up the stairs, hugging the repaired broom closely.

Severus ignored the talkative girl and gathered his ingredients without a word. Nodding to October and her friend, he walked into an empty potion room and started setting up.

October smiled vaguely to herself before padding softly in after Severus, "I apologize. Mimi is a bit excitable." She said to her friend upon re-entering the dreary Potions Classroom, "She's really a lovely girl, though."

"Welcome back," Blaze grinned at October.

"Hello, Blaze." October replied, giving him a slight nod in acknowledgement, "I suppose you have yet to locate what gave you the feeling that you needed to come down here?"

"I'm sure she's lovely," Severus nodded to the odd boy in the classroom. He pulled out his Potions book and measuring tools, trying to get himself organized.

October drifted over to Severus and settled herself on a nearby stool, merely observing him. She had always liked watching him work for some reason. They had been in Potions class together since first year (apparently, the staff seemed to want to stick the best and worst students in class together), and the fourth year had often neglected her own potion in favor of watching Severus.

Soon the familiar music of a softly simmering cauldron reached his ears, but he didn't let his concentration falter; this was a complicated potion and he didn't dare fail Slughorn.
It was only until he turned around that he realized that October was still in the room. Unlike the other students, whose gazes he could always feel uncomfortably well on his back, October had an air about her that made Severus feel as if he didn't need to prove anything to her; he just had to be himself.
"I hope I'm not boring you. I usually lose myself when I'm working," Severus checked the directions and started to stir the brew slowly clockwise.

Blaze glared in their general direction and wondered what she found so intresting about him.

"Oh, no. Of course not." October shook her head lightly, "I enjoy watching you work, Severus."

"Oh," Severus was truly at a loss for words. Casting around for a subject, he asked her, "So, have you done any extensive traveling?" He trully was flattered that someone would like to look at him so much; he didn't think he was that appealing, but she didn't seem to care.

October paused in thought for a moment, "Yes. My mother and I travel quite a bit. We went to Japan last year. It was fascinating." Suddenly, she remembered something, "Oh yes. speaking of traveling, my mother and I are going across Europe this year to tour all the different, supposedly haunted places on the continent. August was originally going to come, but he chickened out, I'm afraid. So, my mother says that I'm allowed to bring a friend of my choice. I was wondering if you would be interested."

If Severus was at a loss for words earlier, he had been reverted back to a toddler without the smallest of vocabularies. He managed to choke out, "Uh, yeah...I mean yes! I'd love to go. That is, if you don't mind me tagging along," Severus quickly added as he stirred in the last of the powdered tiger liver.

October smiled, "Severus, if I hadn't wanted you to come, would I have asked you to?" She tilted her head slightly to the left, "Anyway, it will take most of the summer, and you're welcome to stay with us at our home until school starts, if you want to."
