It was indeed a lovely day outside. The midmorning sun burned bright in the sky and the towers of the Hogwarts Castle cast long, dark shadows along the grounds. A fluttering wind danced over the grounds, tugging at peoples' hair, scarves, and just general clothing. A first-year Ravenclaw boy was running around, trying to catch his blue-and-bronze scarf that the wind was holding just out of his reach. A pair of Hufflepuffs sat under a tree, studying for some upcoming test. Four Gryffindor girls were cooling their feet in the azure waters of the lake. And, of course, there were three Slytherins, two boys and a girl.
"It's such a nice day." October commented, gazing out towards the lake, her blue eyes sparkling brightly. "Last year, it was storming on my birthday." Naturally, this was much better than last year. To have it storm on one's birthday was like an insult from nature.

Severus surveyed the peaceful scene infront of him. To tell the truth, he would much rather it rain on any given day; it gave him an excuse to hang out in the dungeons. Feeling the wane warmth of the sun on his face and the vibrant colors starting to emerge among the trees, Severus began to change his mind. "Oh, I have something for you," he said, suddenly remembering why he had scouted out October in the first place.

October glanced over at her friend. "Oh, you do?" She tilted her head slightly sideways and staring at Severus questioningly. He had gotten her a gift? How kind of him! She would have been just fine without one, but it was certainly very sweet of him to get her something anyway. October made a mental note to somehow repay him sometime in the future. "That's so nice of you, Severus! You really didn't have to..."

Blaze followed slightly beside the other side of October. He didn't exactly feel like getting anywhere near Severus lest he crack the other boys head open with something hard, very hard. Now it was a good thing that he wasn't near the other Slytherin for he probably would have punched him. What is he thinking? Blaze thought to himself bitterly glaring at a tree they were passing so he didn't glare at Severus. That's just perfect, Blaze mentally hit himself. Why couldn't he have picked something up for her last time he was in Hogsmeade? He would have to remember to get something next time...

Severus handed her a lumpy package wrapped in a pastel green wrapping paper. "I know how much you like gardening, so, I, well, you'll see," Severus hoped the clear, glass vials hadn't broken while in his bookbag. It had taken him forever to find decently clean vials in the store room, and making a plant enhancer potion was never easy since Herbology was such an unpredictable branch of magic in Severus' opinion. Plants had a mind of his own, and many could go bad due to weather conditions. A potion was stable and didn't need constant care except when brewing.

"Thank you so much, Severus." October smiled and gave her friend a brief hug out of thanks. She had not been expecting something like this to happen, especially since October had never really given Severus anything for his birthday, but it was a pleasant surprise all the same. She would have to make sure to get him something nice once his birthday rolled around again. "Let's go sit down so I can open this."

Severus smirked over October's head at Blaze after October had hugged him. The butterfly explosion in his stomach was becoming commonplace as well as the faint blush that rose to his face whenever October touched him or exerted other friendly manners meant for him. But he wasn't complaining.
