"Bad shot, bad shot, blurry, another bad shot..." Mimi sighed, sorting through various photos of October she had taken over the last week. Over half of them were bad shots, a few of them were just blurry (like October had suddenly moved when the shot went off), and some had just not come out during the development. Mimi was rather new at photography and it showed. But still, she enjoyed it. It was a nice hobby to have. There were a few pictures in the bunch that Mimi was very proud of, though. Taking a picture of a person who is unaware they were being photographed was much harder than taking one of someone who knew. "This one's pretty good, that one didn't come out, bad shot, bad shot, another blurry..."
Mimi was sorting the pictures out on the table. The ones that were bad were put it one pile and the ones that were good were sorted into another. Mimi's favorite of the myriad so far was a picture of October sitting in the Slytherin Quidditch stands (alone, of course), a book open in her lap, staring dreamily up at the sky with half-lidded eyes. It captured the most of October's personality and that was why it was good. Mimi half hoped Severus wouldn't pick that one so she could show it to October. It was a really good photograph...
The Hufflepuff fifth year glanced toward the door. Wasn't the library one of Severus' usual haunts? With any luck, he would show up so that he could pick the one he wanted and Mimi's debt to him for helping her would be repaid.

Luck seemed to on Mimi's side this day as Severus managed to glide in the Library even with a bulky bookbag. Seeing Mimi, he blanched, but seeing the pictures spread on the table he headed in her direction. "Any good ones?" he said curtly, biting back the urge to call her something really nasty before he really regretted it.

Mimi stared at the younger Slytherin boy, her gaze icy enough to make glass frost over. "...Yeah." The Hufflepuff girl replied, pushing the pile of photographs she had deemed worthy toward him. "Pick one you like. Or you can take multiple ones. I really don't care. You should be grateful, you know. I even enchanted the film to smell like October. Apples, flowers, old books. But I suppose you already know what Toby smells like...or have you not gotten that close to her yet?"

"Since you don't care..." Severus proceeded in scooping ALL of the pictures into his arms. "I know what she smells like," he snapped at her. "But I'm surprised you know what she smells like since that must mean she let younear her, which is impossible for me to imagine her letting you do."

Mimi snorted. "She's my best friend. You don't think we haven't hugged before?" Mimi replied, busily trying to figure out how to get the shot she liked so much away from Severus and simultaneously think up good retorts. This was proving somewhat difficult, but Mimi dealt with it. "October hugs all her friends...or did you not know that? I suppose she's too disgusted by your complete lack of personal hygiene to hug you."

Severus gave her a very surprised look. "Wait a minute, she's your friend? Why," He placed the pictures in his bookbag, taking care not to smush them too much, "I never realized! I thought maybe you only stuck up for her just so you could take a jab at me." Severus rolled his eyes. "And since October and I are friends, we have hugged, you - " Severus bit down hard on his lip just in time.

"Finish your sentence." Mimi said. It sounded an awful lot like an order. "And yes, October and I are friends. What, did you think you were her only friend? Aww, how cute. Just because she's the only person who likes you doesn't mean people hate and shun her as well. In fact, our Miss Cricket is fairly popular in and out of her house, although she doesn't believe that herself. She's got friends in my house, in August's house, and even a few in Gryffindor. Newsflash, Severus: You aren't October's only friend. Her world does not revolve around you. Deal with it."

"No, I never said that I was her only friend. I just can't believe she'd be friends with such an imbecile like you. And that was what I was going to say, but I stopped since I knew it might be hurtful, but," Severus smiled coldly at her, "You wanted to know what I was going to say. You asked for it. Besides, I know her world doesn't revolve around me, but mine definitely revolves around her since she's my only friend."

Mimi's feelings were not hurt easily. A cheap insult like Severus' just glanced right off her. "Seriously, you call that an insult?" She asked incredulously. "Really, I would expect better from you, Severus. You know, I have no idea why October likes you so much. I have no idea why she keeps protecting you from James and the other Marauders. You're cold, mean, anti-social, you have absolutely no spine, and you're sarcastic, not to mention you don't seem to know what a bar of soap is and you're ugly as sin. If there's anything I've learned from my years knowing October, it's that she despises anyone who is cruel to her or her friends. Unless you're a completely different person when around her, I can't understand why she would be so hypocritical. I simply cannot wait until October finally gets over her misguided affections for you and sees you for what you really are, an evil, self-serving, cold-hearted little bastard."

"At least we agree on one thing, Lockhart," Severus said. "We both don't understand why she's being hypocritical by befriending the other. I don't understand why she's friends with you. You're obnoxious, you assume before you give the other the chance to prove themselves, you speak before you think, you're bloody stupid to not know what a Firecrab Egg is (which scares me as to what else you might not know. You do remember your name, right?), and you like to control people. If you don't like the company that October hangs out with, then either make new friends or learn to deal with me. I'm not going anywhere, and I can only assume you're not going anywhere either because of your bloody stupidity. Honestly, I thought Gryffindors were pretty dense, but you give idiocy a new meaning."

"You shut your mouth, you disgusting little punk!" Mimi roared furiously, shooting up from the table with her fist clenched so tightly that her nails were digging into her skin. Her yellow-ish eyes burned with rage and hatred. Mimi could not express into words how she very, very much she would love to punch Severus in the face, hopefully breaking his nose, right now. "Just because we aren't all little Potions prodigies like you doesn't mean we're idiots! Just look at October! She's pitiful at Potions and I bet you don't call her an idiot. No, you don't, because I bet you're afraid of loosing the only person who ever showed some concern for your little smartass life." Mimi's fists were itching to punch him in the face.
"Or is it something else, hmm? Are you trying to sucker her into joining you and your Dark Lord, just because she's too naive to know what's going on? And October says she loves you, did you know that? We got into a big fight because I thought she was being stupid for not seeing what was happening right in front of her, that you were one of You-Know-Who's followers and would betray he just like her father did. Do you know what she said, Severus? She said she didn't care if you were a Death Eater, she said she loved you anyway. I have no idea why she has such devotion to an ugly, little git like you, I swear to God I will murder you if you hurt her in any way!" With that, Mimi did as she had been wanting to do. She raised her fist and punched Severus in the face as hard as she could. Mimi had had more than enough of people calling her stupid and making fun of her. Her house Quidditch team thought she was annoying and wouldn't let her try out, despite the fact that she was a brilliant flyer and now it was Severus. He really should think before he taunted someone, seeing as he was the perfect target for misplaced aggression.

James came around the corner just in time to see Mimi Lockhart punch Severus Snape in the face. For a moment he was too shocked to say anything, but after a second he couldn't help laughing. "damn, Mimi!" he said through his laughter, "I've been waiting for somebody to do that for years!" He would've clapped, but was frankly too busy trying to keep from falling over laughing.

"What can I say? The little freak deserves it." Mimi replied, sneering at Severus as she lowered her fist. "Good to see you, Potter. Want to help me beat some sense into Severus' greasy little head? Maybe after I'm through with him, he'll learn not to take advantage of peoples' friends just because they're too ignorant and naive to notice..."

James raised an eyebrow, not laughing anymore. "Who's he taking advantage of, now? October?"

By this time Severus had recovered from his blow and had gotten to his feet. Although Severus would never admit it, the Lockhart girl had a good arm, especially when it came to punching someone in the nose. Blood had spattered all over his robes and he was having trouble hiding his pain from the Hufflepuff and Gryffindor. "It's because of people like you that no one gives a flip about me. You give me the reputation of being a slimeball, and I'm just grateful that October is the only one that can see through those lies," Severus said through clenched teeth as he righted the chair up. "Besides, takes a slimeball to know a slimeball, Lockhart." And with that, he left the library.
