October hovered patiently outside the kitchen door, rocking back and forth on her heels and gazing around distractedly. She had only been down here on a few occasions, and it was still rather foreign territory to her.
Pulling a note out of her pocket, she read over the hastily scribbled message.
October,
Could you meet me near the Kitchen around noon? I need to talk to you. It's kind of urgent and I really need your help.
Your Friend, Mimi
October was well aware that the Hufflepuff common room was near the Kitchen and that her friend should have no trouble getting here. However, it was already twenty minutes past noon by her watch and still no Mimi.

Mimi zipped around the corner, carrying a broom that had been broken in half. Her face was red with panic and sweat dripped off the fifth year's nose, "Oh no, oh no, oh no!" She whimpered to herself, her voice getting higher and higher.
Rounding a corner, she nearly collided with October, "Toby!" She excalimed, screeching to a halt, "You have to help meee! I borrowed this girl's broom, and she's on the Quidditch team, and I accidentally flew it into that stupid whomping willow and it snapped the broom clean in half! You have to help me fix it, Toby, or I'll never make it on the Quidditch team!"

October frowned, staring at Mimi with her cool, blue eyes, "Mimi, what makes you think I could fix it?" She demanded of the Hufflepuff, "I'm a year behind you."

"Yes..." Mimi whimpered, still clutching the broken broom, "But, it's just you're so good at magic and stuff, and I'm just useless..."

October narrowed her eyes at Mimi, "Don't give me any more of that 'Oh, I'm just no good at anything' crap. I won't hear it." She snatched half of the broom from Mimi's hand, "You're fine at magic or else you wouldn't be in this school. Now, I can't fix this, but if you really can't tell this girl the truth, I suggest you at least try to buy her a new one."

Mimi's face lit up, "Oh, Tobykins, you're brilliant! I never thought of that!" Mimi excalimed, clapping her hands, "My birthday's coming up. I could write my mom saying I want this same type of broom and poof! Nobody will ever know the broom was broken!"

"For the sake of all that you could possibly hold sacred, PLEASE don't call me 'Tobykins'." October made a little sound of disgust at the nickname, "And anyway, Mimi, don't you think this girl might suspect something when this new broom is delivered to you during Breakfast, or Luch, or whenever the owl comes?"

Mimi thought for a moment, feeling rather stupid, "Well...ah...maybe I could get her to deliver it to you!" She suggested, "Then everyone will think YOU got a new broom and then you can give it to me later! I'll just tell Mom that I can't get it on my birthday and that you're picking it up for me!"

October gave Mimi a look that was caught somewhere between horror and amusement, "Mimi, dear child, I don't play Quidditch. There would be no reason for me to receive a broom."

"Well, ah...Does August play Quidditch?" Mimi asked hopefully, "He could get it for me, couldn't he?"

October gazed up at the significantly taller fifth year with a look of slight annoyance, "While my dear brother does show interest in that barbaric sport, I doubt he would give you the broom once he had it in his posession. Probably, he would keep it and insist you were merely trying to steal his new broom once you came to take it from him."

Mimi blushed, "Yeah, I guess he--" Suddenly, Mimi was hit by a crippling dizzy spell. She wavered a moment before letting herself fall over, her surroundings going completely black as she went down.

Alea poked her head in the kitchen to talk to a house elf friend of hers when she saw October and a girl she didn't know. "Oh, hey October!" she called, and saw the girl she didn't know suddenly pass out. Alea ran over to her. "What happened?" she asked October.

October reached out to catch Mimi, "I...I'm not sure. She just passed out..." The Slytherin girl muttered, looking truly distressed.

Alea shook her head, worried. "Come on, let's get her to the Hospital Wing. That makes," she trailed off to count,"Four Gryffindors, One Slytherin, and a Hufflepuff," she sighed.
